Check out the new fall schedule here!
Ongoing:
Some of our Evanston guys may be currently participating in Lacrosse America Clinics (Wilmette, Tuesdays) and/or Fall Leagues (Glenview, Sundays) through mid-October.
Coming up:
Annual "Shootouts" - One day, 7-on-7 tournaments for ages 7/8, Freshman, JV, Varsity. see http://www.lacrosseamerica.com/il/fallshootout.shtml
- 7/8 graders: Saturday October 25: If interested please email Coach Hutchen johnhutchen@hotmail.com AND me (rtmayne@aol.com). I fear this directly conflicts with the last weekend of football, and so will NOT push this unless we get some pro-active response to this email.
- Freshman: Sunday October 26, JV: Saturday October 25, Varsity: Sunday October 26. Ask your High School coach if your school has any sort of sign up going for this. Both ETHS and Loyola have sent good teams to this event in the past (it used to be much closer at Skokie Pla yfields, Winnetka).
EYLA Wolfpack Junior level Fallball: Coach Hutchen has sent out invitations to all the 7th & 8th grades who played Wolfpack lacrosse this past to enjoy some post-football season, cool-weather lacrosse on Sundays on the new ETHS Stadium turf field. This should be an excellent, Evanston-centric skill and team building program that looks to raise the competitiveness of our Junior A&B teams for the spring 2009 campaign.

Winter Indoor Lacrosse - Lacrosse America has posted the upcoming winter indoor schedule (http://www.lacrosseamerica.com/il/programming-nwinter.shtml). Hooray for the new, much closer location at Northbrook Indoor Sports. Programs are 1-hour sessions on weekends beginning November 1. This year the age groups reach down to as young as Kindergarten/1st grade through High School, beginners and experienced. Over the last several years we have had nice carpool organization supporting participation at the further away Libertyville Sportsplex - please contact me if you are interested. As I get a feel for our community's interest I'll see about drumming up the same sort of coordination.
AS ALWAYS, Evanston Wolfpack Youth Lacrosse recognizes that Lacrosse is a spring sport and first encourages our guys to primarily play stuff like football in the fall; hockey, basketball, wrestling over the winter. We only suggest participation in these off-season lacrosse programs as they do NOT conflict with primary fall/winter sports and serve to "keep your sticks warm" for the annual spring campaign! Having said that, expect to see more off-season Wolfpack local offerings beginning fall, 2009.
Some stuff to look forward to:
Spring 2009: The Wolfpack will have not just 1, but 2 HOME GAME FIELDS!!. We are excited to announce that the Wolfpack will hold practices and games at both Chute School and on the new awesome field turf of Lazier Field at ETHS. Being on the turf will allow our Sunday practices to begin as early as mid-March. As the weather warms and the clocks spring ahead, we will commence weeknight practices at Chute, Tallmadge and even ETHS.
Couple of news tidbits:
- We have established a "mutual endorsement" alliance with local youth football organizations Jr. Wildkits and St. Athanasius School. Wolfpack leaders have been invited to give presentations directly to Evanston's pre-High School football players informing them of the terrific complimentary cross-training that spring lacrosse provides. Next stop: FAAM, --- basketball is an excellent sport that teaches foot movement, positioning, and offensive principles that make lacrosse players better. Our "brotherhood" with hockey is already well established.
- EYLA President Randall Mayne (yours truly) just became the newest member of the Evanston Playground and Recreation Board. I hope to bring what I can to continue our town's improvement in recreational facilities and programs - please consider me a conduit of your insights and opinions on related matters.
- Please consider donating to the ETHS Lazier Field fundraiser (http://www.eths.k12.il.us/store/donstore.asp, left hand side), as proceeds go to pay for both that turf field and future improvements to our community High School's facilities. Clearly ETHS is following through on their pledge to make these facilities available to pre-High School youth sports organizations in Evanston - there's more to come! Even if you don't plan on sending your kids to ETHS, we ALL benefit from these improvements.
- Also consider donating to the Evanston Youth Lacrosse Association (www.evanstonlacrosse.org, - the website isn't currently able to process donations, but will be soon). The EYLA will use our funds to help pay for Evanston kids to play lacrosse by providing equipment, covering entry fees, and more.
